What is a Blog?
I thought I’d give you some information about what is a blog and in doing the research it became apparent there is a plethora of information available. Wikipedia has a vast definition and Blogger provides a simple version. Suffice to say a blog is a “web log” and provided as a type of website or a part of a website.
Blogs are considered one of the first social media activities; they are generally published from recent posts to older posts. Blogs generally provide links to other blogs and third party information; often they include links to prior blogs as well (Note my links above).
According to the CMA, a blog can be described by the following:
- Instant personal publishing
- Has a conversational, informal tone
- Can be individual, group, or corporate
- Audiences can be internal or external
- Tactical Communications tool
- Must be Authentic
- Generally provide a feedback mechanism
One thing to consider when building or implementing your blog is that it’s an interchange and exchange. You must expect feedback, some positive, some negative, but surely there will be feedback. Social Media has a way of making you and your brand accountable.
