            “Are you on Facebook?” It’s an often asked question these days, and if you’re like most people, you probably at least have a profile. The Statistics Portal calculates that currently Facebook has approximately 1.49 billion monthly active users. This is a huge audience that, when effectively utilized, can have huge results to your bottom line.

            Running a Facebook contest can do many things for your business or brand, such as:

  • Excite current Facebook fans
  • Encourage new people to “Like” your page
  • Increase page and website traffic
  • Increase content sharing

           Be careful to prepare well before you release your contest. There are a lot of things to remember when planning an online contest, such as the rules (Don’t Run Afoul of the Law). The opportunities can be many, and here are some reminders, when planning to run a Facebook contest…

1.     Advertise Effectively

  • How you get your contest out there is extremely important. Facebook already has some great tools for businesses to promote and advertise available.

2.     Know Your Goals

  • What are you trying to do? Grow your client base? Sell a product? Promote your brand? Keep this at the centre of all your contest planning.

3.     Select the best Prize

  • This is important. Select a prize that will entice those really interested in your business. A big prize can be exciting, but can also attract a lot of uninterested people.

4.     Make the content exciting

  • Spend the effort to get your page looking fun and exciting. If your contest is bland, people won’t be interested in checking it out!

5.     Time it Right

  • Remember, sometimes a seasonal spin on a contest can make a huge difference. Connect to things that are important to your customers.
