Facts on Twitter Usage

The tweets keep on coming:  In just two years, Twitter usage has quadrupled in the U.S., according to the Pew Research Center. The non-partisan fact tank reports that use has actually doubled since 2011, and quadrupled since 2012, with 15% of online adults now on it. Twitter usage is increasing.

Pew attributes the increase in daily usage in part to the rise of smartphones. No mystery there: Brief, spontaneous comments are ideal for tiny phone keyboards.

  • How about Twitter usage in Canada? Actually, Canadians out-tweet our American counterparts (as well as watch more YouTube and visit Facebook more), says the Wall Street Journal’s MarketWatch.
  • In 2011, 13.7% of Canadians were tweeting as opposed to 11.3% of Americans. Today, Canadians rank 6th in the world in Twitter use, with 18% actively tweeting.
  • A “typical” Canadian Twitterer is 15 to 24 with post-secondary education, enjoys technology and simply enjoys being connected

If your product or service is a match for this kind of consumer, the message is simple. You can’t afford to ignore Twitter or Twitter usage.

Now that is something to tweet about.
