Blogs > Facebook – Photo Tagging

Just last month there was more noise related to privacy and Facebook. Seems that Facebook deployed the photo-tagging feature with the capabilities “on”, which certainly didn’t surprise me.
The fact is that lawmakers are all over Social Media Privacy, and this trend will continue. What makes this article interesting is the fact that most users aren’t even aware of the new option. Given that Facebook users can already tag friends without permission this option wasn’t a great leap for mankind.
The Daily Examiner reported the news here, “Facebook Faces New Wave Of Criticism For Automatic Photo Tagging”.
The takeaway on this, is check and know your settings. Social media sites are constantly making updates and keep in mind that lawmakers will always be one step behind, after all, they are way behind on issues that are nowhere near as advanced technically as social media.
As the article points out, “If this new feature is as useful as Facebook claims, it should be able to stand on it’s own, without automatic sign up that changes users’ privacy settings without their permission”
You can find more info here on Facebook Help Centre. In my case, it’s not yet functional.
